Exodus unveils new Citizen Science departures for 2025 and 2026

Small-group tour operator Exodus Adventure Travels has unveiled new Citizen Science departures for 2025 and 2026.

The Citizen Science departures enable customers to spend a part of their Exodus holiday – usually just a couple of hours – taking part in valuable scientific research.

Freshwater samples will be taken in key locations across the world and then analysed by Exodus’ partner, Nature Metrics, which extracts and catalogues the eDNA from these samples.

The samples taken on these trips play a vital role in building the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s eBioAtlas – a global atlas of life in the world’s river basins and wetlands.

Clients on these trips will receive an update on what the conservation data samples from their trip has helped to identify.

In 2024, 78 global samples were taken on Exodus’ Citizen Science departures which resulted in the detection of 797 species.

Seven threatened species were identified including the fire salamander, the endangered American eel and the vulnerable military macaw.

The Colombia: Culture, Coffee & Caribbean 15-day tour costs from £3,249, excluding flights, with a Citizen Science departure on September 13. 

Clients will explore Tayrona National Park and the Indigenous seaside village of Katanzama on the Caribbean coast. Other highlights include Bogotá, Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral and Cartagena.

The 12-day Jordan: Culture & Nature In Depth tour will take travellers to all six of Jordan’s Unesco sites in addition to other nature reserves.

It features Petra, Wadi Rum, the Roman city of Jerash, the Dead Sea and the Azraq Wetlands. It costs from £1,979, excluding flights. Citizen Science departures are on September 19 and October 24.

The eight-day Finnish Wilderness Week tour is from £2,049, excluding flights, with Citizen Science departures on December 14 and 1 February 1, 2026.
