Melanie Thom, sales director north at Flexible Autos, has joined homeworking agency Inspire as an Independent Travel Associate (ITA).
She will be running her own travel business – Mel’s Travel Boutique by Inspire – alongside her full-time role at Flexible Autos.
Thom has more than 26 years of experience in the travel industry and felt her expertise and knowledge were “going to waste” when she could be helping friends and family plan their own holidays.
She said becoming an ITA gives her the opportunity to put her experience to work.
Thom’s decision followed her attendance at Inspire’s ‘Work Rest Play’ conference in Majorca in October.
“From the moment I attended the conference, I felt included, loved and part of the Inspire family,” said Thom.
“When I decided to take the leap, it was Inspire that sprang to mind straight away, purely because of the way they make their agents feel.”

She will be running her ITA travel business in the evenings and at weekends, selling holidays ranging from “city breaks to bucket‑list adventures”, both overseas and in the UK.
Also, she believes the move will further strengthen the relationship between Inspire and Flexible Autos, where she will act as an internal point of expertise to help to support and boost sales between the two organisations.
Lisa Henning, Inspire Group’s chief executive, added: “Saying that we are delighted to have Melanie join us as an Independent Travel Associate is an understatement – we are thrilled.
“What we are most proud of is that she chose to collaborate with us, which is an absolute testament to what we have created with our homeworking business – agents join us because we care, and we are passionate about supporting the growth of their travel businesses.
“We welcome Melanie with open arms and wish her every success with her new venture.”
