Flights cancelled as Norwich Airport industrial action continues

Norwich Airport has told passengers that it will be closed to air traffic between 8am and 1pm on Friday (August 21) as industrial action at the site continues.

It said on its website that the closure is “due to the ongoing industrial action, short of a strike, involving Prospect union members in Air Traffic Control”.

The statement added: “Airlines have been informed of the closure. Passengers should check with their airline for the latest information about their flight before travelling to the airport.

“We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience this may cause.

“Discussions with Prospect are continuing and we remain committed to resolving the dispute through constructive dialogue.”

The airport website on Friday morning is showing KLM flights between Amsterdam and Norwich have been cancelled, as well as Loganair services between Norwich and Aberdeen.

Air traffic control staff at Norwich Airport have already announced a one-day strike on Friday August 28 in a dispute over pay, pensions and parental leave.

The Prospect union said the strike action will mean the airport will be unable to operate on August 28 – ahead of the bank holiday weekend – unless the airport takes action to resolve the dispute.

It said there have been “months of efforts” to resolve the ongoing dispute and members of the union have started action short of a strike – staff are working strictly to contract; refusing non-contractual overtime; not swapping shifts; and withdrawing goodwill.
