Florida flights hit by Hurricane Charley

THOUSANDS of holidaymakers to Florida were left stranded at airports over the weekend after Hurricane Charley caused scores of flights to be delayed.

Two British Airways flights were cancelled, with dozens more delayed, as the hurricane battered the region.

Around four Virgin Atlantic flights between Gatwick and Orlando were delayed by up to two days as the airport was badly damaged, with leaking water and debris affecting airport equipment and electricity suffering from failures.

Disney was forced to close its Florida parks “intermittently” during the main storm on Saturday, with the Water Park and Animal Kingdom particularly hit.

However, a spokeswoman said it was business as usual from today (August 16)).

USA Tailor Made Holidays was forced to find hundreds of alternative beds for customers evacuated from the Gulf Coast or stranded by delayed flights.
