FORMER Amersham Travel managing director David Giles has returned to the industry with a consultancy business for corporate travel buyers.

Giles has been out of the industry since selling his 20-year-old business travel agency to Travelstore.com for £23 million in March 2000.

The new company, the Giles Partnership, based in Amersham, advises managers on how to tender for the right travel agency and trains buyers to negotiate the best deals with agents.

The former Guild of Business Travel Agents vice-chairman will even advise corporate clients to make bookings themselves rather than pay a fee to an agent.

Giles said: “Some corporate clients are just not getting a good enough service from their agent. A lot of corporates have told me they are going to have to bring their travel spend down next year.”
