Fred Olsen Cruise Line’s ship Borealis has re-entered service after a two-week dry dock where it underwent “comprehensive rejuvenation”.
The changes cover technical upgrades and enhancements to the ship’s interiors and exteriors to “elevate the onboard experience”.
Fresco, a new open-air lounging venue on deck 8, has been introduced as part of the enhancements.
The 1,353-passenger ship has also had its stage technology, lighting and acoustics in The Neptune Lounge upgraded, along with the addition of new aerial silks, to support the cruise line’s new entertainment partnership with RWS Global which will launch on April 30, 2026.
The decoration of public areas such as The Observatory and The View has been updated, along with speciality restaurant Colours & Tastes.
New cabin doors and key cards, as well as a new phone system, have also been installed.
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines chief executive Samantha Stimpson said: “We are delighted to welcome guests back on board Borealis following her successful dry-dock period. This investment underscores our ongoing commitment to enhancing the guest experience and proudly maintaining our fleet of classic, smaller ships for many more years of service.
“The dry-dock programme allowed us to carry out essential technical and mechanical maintenance to ensure Borealis continues to operate efficiently and responsibly.
“During this period, we also invested in energy-efficient upgrades to key components, reaffirming our dedication to protecting the oceans we sail and ensuring a more sustainable future for cruising.”
She added: “Inspired by what our guests value most, we’ve also introduced a range of exciting enhancements – from refreshed public spaces to new dining experiences – designed to offer greater choice, improved comfort, and more memorable moments at sea.”
