Gates resigns from Midconsort

MIDCONSORT managing director Mike Gates has resigned, ending months of speculation about his future.

He said a restructure of the board, which gives greater responsibility to individual members, has watered down his role.

“I fully understand the reasons for the change but the role of managing director has altered as a result,” he said.

He denied he had come under increasing pressure to stand down despite senior sources claiming there had been a clash of management styles and personalities with the board.

Midconsort spokesman Neil Basnett said: “Although not always recognised Mike’s all round skills and knowledge of the travel industry have been greatly utilised. Midconsort has benefited from his expertise.”
