The company said the 109,000-ton vessel, a sister ship to Grand Princess, will be the largest ever to call at the UK port. The inaugural 12-day cruise will take in Le Havre, Lisbon, Naples and Barcelona. In the summer the ship will run 12-day voyages between Barcelona and Istanbul.
Princess is thought to be considering the option of basing one of its Grand-class vessels in Venice or Genoa in the future but the company was unable to confirm this.
n The board of the cruising arm, P&O Princess, will include chairman Lord Sterling, chief executive officer Peter Ratcliffe and chief financial officer Nick Luff. The company will be spun off in October.
