Hays Travel agencies set the pace with charity fundraisers
Hays Travel agents from Morecambe, Omagh, Beverley, Crosby and Hamilton have raised thousands of pounds recently with walking and cycling charity events.
A seven-strong team from the Crosby branch completed the Cancer Research UK Race for Life at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, raising £1,249.
Crosby branch manager Claire Liptrot said: “We have customers, friends, and family members who have been directly affected by cancer, including both children and adults. So as a team, we were proud to support the 5k Race for Life and help make a difference in our local community.
“We are truly grateful to everyone who donated, participated, and supported us along the way. Your kindness and encouragement helped make this achievement possible. Thank you for helping us support such an important cause.”
• A four-strong team from Beverley cycled 100 miles in their store to raise money for Age UK.
They took turns cycling the 100 miles on an exercise bike dressed as bees, raising almost £300 for Age UK Hull and East Yorkshire.
The charity’s chairman and its mascot, Bertie the Bee, popped in to cheer the team along. Bertie is named in honour of Hull fundraising legend, Jean Bishop, who raised more than £125,000 dressed as a bee.
A team from Omagh in Northern Ireland walked 10 miles to raise money for the Children’s Heartbeat Trust.
Their trek from Mountfield to Gortin raised more than £1,100 for the charity, which provides practical support to families of children and young people with congenital heart disease across Northern Ireland.

• Elsewhere, the Hamilton branch (pictured below) raised more than £1,100 for the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, as staff were joined by friends, family and customers for a four-mile walk around Strathclyde Park in Motherwell.
Hamilton’s assistant manager, Amanda Harvie, said: “It was great fun. This is an amazing local charity that provides an essential lifeline for many of our local community at a difficult time.”
As well as arranging the fundraising walk, she contacted Rangers and Celtic football clubs, who both donated vouchers for tours of the stadiums and trophy rooms, and these have been gifted to drivers from the charity.
• Staff from the Morecambe branch joined 900 walkers for a 16km Moonlight Walk for St John’s Hospice.
The nighttime walk around Lancaster and Morecambe marked the 40th anniversary of the hospice and was its 18th Moonlight Walk.
Assistant manager Talia Carlton said: “We started the walk at 10pm and managed to complete it in three hours and 22 minutes. We decided to make it more fun by dressing up as Disney characters!
“We also held a raffle in branch and sold tickets for £5 each, which helped to bring our fundraising total to £692.
“It was amazing to be able to raise money for this charity that does so much for people in their final months, and so much for their families too.”
