The Island, which opens on September 11, will be aimed at the business traveller who wants to take a shower, conduct business meetings and relax before or after a flight but who is flying with an economy-class ticket. The cost to enter the lounge is £25.
It is the first pay-as-you-go lounge from BAA but there are plans to launch more in the future.
BAA's senior property marketing manager Peter Young said: "The Island is aimed at economy business travellers who want to take advantage of low-cost air travel but appreciate the convenience of a first-class arrivals lounge so they can freshen up after a long journey.”
The Island will be situated in Heathrow's Terminal 3 Arrivals and will offer 29 shower suites with towels and toiletries, a shoe cleaning and clothes valet service and steam cleaningfor suits.
The Island will be open from 5am until 2pm and will include self-service refreshments and snacks and a licensed bar with wine and beer.
