Icelandair sees jump in passenger figures for March

Icelandair has reported its passenger numbers last month were up 38% on March 2022.

The flag carrier flew a total of 255,000 passengers last month, compared with 184,000 in the same month last year.

Last month’s figures were a record for ticket sales, the airline says, with capacity also up 27% on March last year.

The total number of passengers on international flights last month was 229,800 (up 43% on March 2022), while the number on domestic flights was 24,729 (up 8%).

Other key figures from the Icelandair update:

• The number of passengers to Iceland last month stood at 118,000, with the figure from the country being 45,000. Via passengers were around 67,000.
• On-time performance on international flights was 82%.
• The load factor on international flights was 81.8%, an increase of 8.2% year on year.
• The load factor was especially high on flights to and from North America, standing at 86.7%. This is a record load factor for North America flights in March.
• For domestic flights, on-time performance was 90%.
• Load factor on domestic flights was 76.3%.
• Sold block hours in the leasing operation increased by 20%. Freight measured in Freight Ton Kilometres increased by 20% compared with March last year due to increased capacity through the introduction of a Boeing 767 widebody into the cargo fleet at the end of last year.
