Joe Margison has been confirmed as chief executive of Virgin Hotels Collection following his tenure as interim CEO for seven months.
The hospitality group behind Virgin Hotels and Virgin Limited Edition brought in the former Virgin Group commercial director in October 2025.
He has represented Virgin Group on a number of company and property boards across the travel, leisure and wellness sectors.
Margison was previously with the New Zealand Superannuation Fund, where he focused on private equity, credit and real estate investments. He began his career at Ernst & Young and is a chartered accountant.
His appointment comes amid expansion of the Virgin Hotels Collection portfolio including a property in Atlanta and Virgin Limited Edition’s forthcoming hotel in Marrakech, both due to open next year.
The sister brands currently comprise 16 properties across the US, the Caribbean, Africa and Europe.
Margison said: “Having led the Virgin Hotels Collection team for seven months, I have seen first-hand the strength of this business and the opportunity ahead.
“Virgin Hotels and Virgin Limited Edition are distinct brands united by the same Virgin spirit - brilliant people, service with real warmth and character, and experiences guests remember long after they leave.
“We have a strong foundation and a significant opportunity ahead. I’m excited to lead the business through its next chapter of growth.”
Peter Norris, chair of Virgin Hotels Collection, added: “Joe’s appointment as chief executive officer reflects the leadership he has shown since stepping into the role.
“He has brought clarity, confidence and renewed focus to the business while continuing to champion Virgin’s distinctive spirit and experience-led approach to hospitality.
“We are delighted to confirm his permanent appointment and look forward to the next phase of growth under his leadership.”
