Specialist walking tour operator Involved Holidays has raised more than £1,000 for a local charity with a marathon trek around the Rutland Water reservoir.
The team from the Market Harborough-based company took on the 26.2-mile walk in aid of LOROS Hospice in Leicester – and completed the route in less than 10 hours.
The challenge was also part of Involved Holidays’ ‘Walk this May’ activity, which celebrates National Walking Month in May.
The charity is close to the hearts of members of the Involved Holidays team, who have relied on LOROS Hospice for friends and family members with terminal cancer.
Steve West, managing director at Involved Holidays, said: “Walk this May is a celebratory point in the annual calendar for us at Involved Holidays.
“National Walking Month not only gives recognition to the many great benefits of walking, and of course the many ways in which walking can be incorporated as a lifestyle choice, it also allows us to pay tribute to the many fantastic destinations across the world we can explore on foot.
“It does also stand as a reminder of the need to give back and supporting local charities is close to all our hearts.
“LOROS Hospice does fantastic work within our local community for those living with life-limiting illness.
“The work they do has personally touched our team, and so we are delighted to be able to support their efforts in any way we can.
“The team were fantastic and tackled this challenge with spirit and smiles – we even smashed our estimated completion time too.
“A huge thank you to everyone that supported us with donations and of course to the team for their time and effort on the day.”
Involved Holidays offers more than 40 hiking holidays across the UK and Europe, with flights from 20 airports.
