Jet2 colleagues rally round to raise £2k+ for Muscular Dystrophy UK

Jet2 colleagues have rallied round manager Steve Taylor and his family to help raise £2,280 for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Steve, an engineers development and training manager at Jet2, embarked on a fundraising challenge after his son Jack was diagnosed with Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy.

The Taylor family, alongside friends and Jet2 colleagues, walked a combined distance of 6,285 miles in support of the fundraiser.

Jack and Steve, who live in Sutton-in-Craven, North Yorkshire, calculated that each member of the team walking 1.3 miles a day from January to May would allow them to cover 5,458 miles – equivalent to the distance linking Jet2’s 14 UK airport bases, starting from Manchester and ending at Bournemouth, and continuing onwards to the airline’s furthest destination, Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.

What began as a family fundraising challenge soon grew into a company-wide effort, with colleagues across Jet2 getting involved.

Reflecting Jet2’s culture of working as ‘One Team’, colleagues and apprentices from across the business, including cabin crew, ground operations, engineering teams and purchasing, rallied behind the fundraiser.

Steve joined Jet2 in 2015, after serving in the RAF for 25 years. He has supported the company’s growth from the first fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft to more than 135 aircraft today across 14 UK airport bases.

In his current role, Steve is passionate about developing the next generation of aircraft engineers and helping apprentices build rewarding careers within the business.

He said: “Truly, nothing beats working for Jet2, the company supports its colleagues across the entire business, right from ground operations all the way to the head office.

“What started as an idea to raise awareness and funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK became something much bigger, creating special memories for our family and showing just how much people care.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for their efforts and kindness along the way.”
