Members of the Latin American Travel Association in the UK have reported a stronger first half of the year than 2024.
In a survey of its UK-based tour operator members, 80% said their performance had been better than the same first six months of last year, which was also a strong year in which members’ sales were back up to pre-Covid levels.
Peru was named as the stand-out bestselling destination of 2025 so far based on members’ responses followed by Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Costa Rica.
Just over half of members (55%) said the current geopolitical situation was negatively affecting bookings while 35% said it was not having any impact.
Lata chief executive Danny Callaghan said: “It’s wonderful to see that demand and bookings for Latin America have increased for 2025.
“Although current geopolitics are having an impact on demand, creating uncertainty for consumers, we believe that our part of the world is in a strong position to capitalise on this and for destinations to showcase themselves as a stable alternative.”
Callaghan said Lata communicates what is selling to tourist boards and urged them to do the same by sharing marketing activity with Lata members.
He added: “We work closely with our members to find out what is – and isn’t – selling, which we can then share with the tourist boards to give insight into what they can support with promotional activity.
“We believe in the power of collaboration and would urge tourist boards to communicate their marketing activity with us so we can help amplify the message through tour operator partners here in the UK.”
