Luton Airport to develop transport plan

LUTON Airport is to increase the numbers of passengers and employees travelling to and from the airport on public transport.

 

 

The airport has unveiled a 13-point plan called the Surface Access Strategy. This includes working with Railtrack and additional rail operators to increase the number of services stopping at Luton Airport Parkway station and the development of new bus and coach services for staff and passengers.

 

 

The Surface Access Strategy has six short-term targets set for the end of the year and seven long-term targets to be reached by 2006. It is aiming to increase the number of passengers travelling on public transport from 23% to 30% by the end of the year and by 35% in six years’ time.

 

 

Luton Airport’s head of planning and development Richard Moat said: “It’s all about creating an environmentally friendly product. If people know they will have a seamless journey from rail to shuttle bus once they get to the airport, they are more likely to use public transport.”
