MAG airports have almost 1m extra seats available for summer peak

Almost one million extra seats are available across Manchester Airports Group (MAG) sites this summer following a record performance in June.  

The owner of Manchester, Stansted and East Midlands airports revealed that more than 990,000 additional seats are on sale compared to 2025 ahead of schools in England breaking up.

MAG handled a record 6.4 million passengers last month, an increase of 2.2% on June last year. 

The group recorded a rolling 12-month passenger total of 66.6 million passengers, a 1.6% year on year increase.  

Manchester and Stansted both saw record passenger numbers across June.  

Manchester Airport’s total of 3.1 was up 1.3% year on year to give a rolling 12-month passenger total of 32.3 million passengers, a 2.3% increase on 2025.  

Stansted saw 2.9 million passengers in June, up 3.4% to give a rolling 12-month total of 30.3 million, up 1.2% on last year.  

East Midlands handled more than 498,000 passengers, a 1.2% increase year on year. 

All passengers at Stansted passed through security in 15 minutes or less. At East Midlands Airport, the figure was 99% and at Manchester Airport it was 97%.   

MAG chief executive Ken O’Toole said that there needs to be a “predictable, proportionate, fair and objective” approach by the government on business rates to encourage private businesses to continue investing in growth-enabling infrastructure.
