My Booking Rewards (MBR) has revealed expansion plans in new overseas markets as chief executive Darren Pearson becomes sole shareholder.
Pearson co-owned MBR until last month with AMG founding director Nadine Rankin.
Following Rankin’s decision to close AMG, Pearson has acquired the business to become the sole shareholder. Pearson was also co-owner of AMG.
Pearson said: “Nadine and I co-owned both companies (AMG and MBR) but MBR has always been a separate company to AMG.
“Nadine and I owned MBR 50-50 but it was always my ‘baby’ and my brainchild. She wanted to step out of the business and we came to an agreement.”
He added: “It is an exciting time and there are opportunities for the future. MBR just keeps on growing.”
Two of AMG’s former commercial team, Anders Sparkhall and Lucy Abdul, have joined MBR as commercial director and senior commercial manager respectively.
“It was an easy decision to keep them because they were brilliant staff,” added Pearson. The company now has nine staff in total including Pearson.
He named Australia and the US as the target markets for further expansion.
MBR already has 100,000 travel agents directly engaged with the company globally, of which 55% are based in the US. There are more than 15,000 agents in the UK working with MBR.
Agents log bookings and earn incentives from suppliers. This year the company launched MyAgentRates.com, offering agents highly discounted rates on their own trips, as an extension to sister site MBR.
“MBR is international and has not stopped growing. We want to expand beyond the Caribbean so we are looking at the west and east coasts of the US and we are developing it in Australia and Europe where our suppliers are wanting to talk to agents,” he said.
“We are actively seeking partners in Australia and in the US. I am talking to hoteliers and travel agents. We have hotels who want agents to book with them and we have agents who sell holidays out of Australia (for example) to some of our hotels. We are just seeing there is demand for what we are doing.”
