Road access to Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 has been fully restored following earlier flooding in the airport’s central terminal area.
In an update issued at 12.35pm on Saturday (August 15), the airport confirmed that all affected roads had reopened and operations were running as normal.
A spokesperson for Heathrow said: “Following earlier flooding in the central terminal area impacting access to Terminals 2 and 3, all roads have now reopened and the airport continues to operate as normal.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we thank passengers for following the advisories we had put in place while our teams worked to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”
Earlier in the morning, the airport had issued an urgent advisory warning passengers travelling to or from Terminals 2 and 3 not to travel by road, urging them to use public transport or park-and-ride options while emergency teams cleared the surface water.
Consumer group Which? had advised passengers affected by the morning disruption to check travel insurance terms and contact airlines directly regarding missed flights or parking amendments.
Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel, said travellers should check whether their airline offers free rebooking or refunds if flights operated, adding that parking providers should be contacted to amend bookings or process refunds where access was blocked.
