Sandals managing director UK Nigel Cleevely said: “It’s not going to help the island in terms of tourism and it’s not going to help us in terms of bookings, but I don’t think it will be too bad.”
“I’m always concerned for the safety of guests wherever they travel but I’m confident, with the reports we’ve received from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Jamaica Tourist Board and from our managers on the spot, our customers will be well looked after.”
Superclubs marketing manager Europe Annabelle Marshall stressed the problems were occurring in Kingston, at least 50 miles away from resort areas. She admitted Superclubs had received calls from concerned clients but said the firm was not waiving cancellation fees.
