RYANAIR FORCES BUZZ PULL-OUT

BUZZ has pulled its Bournemouth to Glasgow service after Ryanair announced it would be going head to head on the route.

In what will be seen as an embarrassing backtrack, Buzz said it did not think there would be enough passengers to sustain two carriers.

Passengers or agents that had booked tickets on the route, which was due to commence from the end of March, will get a full refund.

The carrier said it was unable to give details about how many tickets had been sold as it was “market sensitive information.”

Ryanair upstaged its low-cost rival by announcing last week it would begin a daily return service between the two points from February, nearly two months before Buzz’s planned take-off. The Irish airline planned to win a large chunk of the market with a special launch fare of £9.99 one-way.

A Buzz spokesman said: “Clearly, we have got to put our aircraft to the best use, flying routes for a large volume of flyers. These factors mean withdrawing from this route so that we don’t enter an unnecessary fight with Ryanair but plough our efforts into finding other destinations.”
