strikes will not affect manchester airport

MANCHESTER Airport will operate as normal if security staff carry out their threat to go on strike, managing director John Spooner has claimed.

Members of the Transport and General Workers Union have voted in favour of taking industrial action after the airport announced plans to cut safety and security costs, jeopardising around 200 jobs. The Union has also claimed security at the airport could be compromised if the cuts are made.

Spooner said: “We will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure there is no disruption and everyone wanting to travel through Manchester Airport will be able to do so and will be made very welcome. I can assure our passengers, airline customers and everyone connected with the airport that Manchester Airport is, and will continue to be, safe and secure.”
