Explora Journeys forced to delay vessel’s launch

Explora Journeys’ debut vessel will now launch in Southampton after MSC Group’s luxury brand pushed back the ship’s maiden voyage due to “global supply chain complications”.

Explora I’s inaugural sailing will leave the UK on July 17, 2023, rather than from Barcelona in May as previously planned.

Affected passengers have already been contacted by the line and offered a full refund. They will also receive future cruise credit to the full value of the cruise even if only the deposit had been paid.

The line said it would protect agent commission already paid on the original booking and pay commission on the cruise booked using future cruise credit.

Chief executive Michael Ungerer said: “Taking into consideration the challenging situation facing the world today including global supply chain complications we have had to take the difficult decision to update our ship’s coming into service schedule.

“The additional time at the shipyard and at sea prior to her first journey will be utilised to ensure that Explora I can and will deliver to the fullest on our brand’s promise and vision – making absolutely no compromise on quality and luxury, our primary objective.”

He added: “From day one, our vision and purpose has been to create a travel and ocean experience like no other.

“This must be truer than ever with the launch of our brand’s first new class of ships. To achieve this, we are working with one of the world’s foremost ship and super yacht builders to create the best luxury hospitality brand and experience.”
