Two trade managers have set up a fundraising initiative and are inviting professionals across the industry to unite and raise money for Abta LifeLine and Reuben’s Retreat.
Aisling McLoughlin, business development director at Iberostar Hotels and Resorts, and Natasha Marson, head of trade distribution at easyJet holidays, fundraised for Abta LifeLine last year and decided to "level up" their efforts this year by launching The Travel 10k.
McLoughlin said: “This year is shaping up to be something really special."
She added: “Initially it started with us and Trudie [Clements] from Abta LifeLine doing the Vitality London 10k last year and we wanted to do something this year but also involve Reuben’s Retreat.
“We wanted to focus on the whole idea of getting out there and keeping fit. Running is great for that and within the industry we are always under so much pressure and we’re always so busy that we can put health to the back.
She added: “It’s all about helping our physical health, mental health and raising funds for amazing industry charities and we decided to open it out to everyone.”
The pair have set up The Travel 10k and invite anyone from the industry to join run or walk 10km either in their local area or on Blackpool Music Run on July 13 with other travel colleagues.
There will also be at least 18 travel professionals taking part in the Saucony Run in London on the same date, which has now closed for registrations.
McLoughlin said agents and suppliers have signed up from companies including Jet2, Domes Resorts, easyJet and Palladium Hotel Group.
She explained: “It is for anyone in the industry, and there will also be some external people like my daughter, who is 16 years old, taking part.
“We have no pressure to raise a certain amount, and we thought if we were doing it all together, we can raise as much as we can and do a 50/50 split of whatever we raise."
McLoughlin added: “There are already talks of drinks after and people are welcome even if they are not running.”
