Tui cancels 'small number' of Lanzarote holidays amid flooding 

Tui has been forced to cancel some holidays to Lanzarote as widespread flooding led to an accommodation squeeze over the busy Easter period

Meanwhile, Jet2 and Jet2holidays flights to Lanzarote are continuing “as normal” despite the floods which left some hotels without power.

A Tui UK & Ireland spokesperson said: “Due to the lack of alternative accommodation on the island during the busy Easter period we unfortunately had to cancel a small number of holidays to Lanzarote.

"Customers were able to receive a full refund or amend to another TUI holiday with a re-booking incentive.

"As always, the safety of our customers and colleagues is our main priority therefore Tui resort teams are working with the local authorities to find customers currently in impacted hotels alternative accommodation or return flights back to the UK.”

Meanwhile, Jet2 provided an update in the wake of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Office revising its travel advice on Monday over heavy rainfall and flooding across the Canary island at the weekend.

The FCDO warned: “Journeys may be affected. If you are in Lanzarote or travelling to Lanzarote, follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local weather updates.”

A Jet2 spokesperson said: “Due to the severe weather conditions that have affected parts of Lanzarote, a small number of hotels have contacted us to let us know that they are temporarily unable to accept arrivals due to the impact of the adverse conditions. 

“As always, we have been making decisions with the best interests of our customers in mind, and we have contacted affected customers to let them know their options. 

“Our flights programme is continuing to operate as normal.”

Travel Weekly has also approached easyJet holidays to comment on the impact of the floods on its flights and holidays.
