United Airlines files for Chapter 11

UNITED Airlines has insisted services in the UK won’t be affected by the carrier’s decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Senior vice–president of international Graham Atkinson said: “United Airlines continues to fly from all of its international destinations.

“We stand by our commitment to provide all of our worldwide customers with the most extensive route network globally.”

It said its membership of Star Alliance remains in effect and services, including Mileage Plus, Red Carpet Clubs and first class lounges, will continue as normal.

The airline decided to file for protection after failing to secure an Air Transport Stabilisation Board loan guarantee for $1.8 billion last week.

Chapter 11 will protect the airline from its creditors while it restructures its operation.
