United avoids strike action

UNITED Airlines ground staff have called off a 24-hour strike due to take place on Friday.

The airline agreed a last-ditch pay deal with the workers' union the T&G last night (August 24).

The new offer will go to a ballot next week but the union has recommended workers accept the new pay offer.

United had said no flights would be cancelled if strike action had taken place.
