United News and Media close uTravel.co.uk

XILERATE, United News and Media's new media division has closed its holiday Web site – uTravel.co.uk.

Xilerate blamed "extremely competitive” conditions in the on-line business to

consumer travel market for its decision.

The site launched in August 1999 and was intended to provide leisure

travellers with holiday and destination information before directing them

to their nearest travel agent to make their booking.
