The trade should consider adults travelling without children as among potential customers for bookings to Universal Epic Universe, according to Universal Destinations & Experiences’ Alison Montague.
Montague, the vice-president of international sales and marketing EMEA, said adults had been identified as a key growth area for Universal Orlando Resorts, with the new park viewed as an important driver.
“I think it just rounds it off for us, in terms of the offering,” she said, noting that the number of adult-only groups in Orlando had been “growing and growing” in the past decade.
She cited statistics suggesting that around 37% of visitors to the area are adults travelling without children.
She added: “Historically we’ve been seen as a family destination, but that’s changed over the last 10 years.
“It’s become more apparent that this is a destination that’s absolutely suitable for adults without kids – there are no kids required to come to Universal Orlando Resort year-round.
“We’ve got something pretty much every month of the year that would suit your needs, even if you don’t have children.
“That’s also where growth could come from, whether it’s groups of friends, young couples, empty nesters or even people who have got university kids or older children who are adults but they’ve come back home.”
