Viking has taken delivery of its fifth vessel designed to sail on Portugal’s Douro River.
The line held a ceremony for Viking Gyda at the West Sea shipyard in Viana do Castello in Portugal.
Gyda will join identical sister ships Viking Helgrim, Viking Hemming, Viking Osfrid and Viking Torgil on the Douro and will sail the 10-day Portugal’s River of Gold itinerary.
The vessel has capacity for 106 passengers across 53 staterooms.
Viking expects to take delivery of 26 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 ocean ships by 2031, taking its river fleet to 112 and ocean and expedition fleet to 23.
Viking chairman and chief executive Torstein Hagen said: “With its rich history, culture and winemaking traditions, Portugal continues to be a very appealing destination for our guests.
“We are proud to welcome the Viking Gyda to our growing fleet of award-winning river ships, and we look forward to introducing more curious travellers to Portugal and its ‘River of Gold’ in the years to come.”
