Wizz Air reacts to Middle East conflict restrictions by adding Red Sea flights

Wizz Air is doubling frequency between Luton Airport and Sharm El Sheikh after suspending flights across the Middle East due to the ongoing regional military conflict.

The budget airline’s flights to and from Israel, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Amman and Saudi Arabia currently remain suspended up to March 7.

Operations are being adjusted “in response to the recent regional airspace restrictions following the escalation of the security situation in the Middle East”.

The airline added: “While these restrictions limit immediate operations, Wizz Air is taking steps to support customers whose travel plans have been disrupted.

“The airline is preparing recovery options to help passengers reach their original destinations as soon as conditions allow, working closely with aviation authorities and airport partners to secure safe operating windows and routes.

“To support passengers who need to travel to or from Israel, Wizz Air is adding substantial extra capacity to Sharm El Sheikh from several of its largest European bases starting from 6 March, pending regulatory approval.”

The revised schedule to the Red Sea resort sees the number of flights from Luton double from four to eight a week.

Capacity to the Egyptian destination is also being raised from Budapest, Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa, with a service introduced from Sofia. 

“These additional flights create more options for passengers affected by the suspension of direct services to and from Israel and will provide the best opportunity for connection between Israel and Europe," Wizz Air said.

“The airline appreciates the patience and understanding shown by its customers during this period and remains committed to restoring its original services once it is safe to do so, while offering alternative solutions to its customers, and to helping to reconnect with loved ones.”
