Wizz Air set to be first European budget carrier to install Starlink internet connectivity

Wizz Air plans to become the first European ultra low-cost carrier to introduce Starlink advanced in-flight internet connectivity.

The technology is due to be added to aircraft from next year.

Every new generation Wizz Air aircraft is expected to be Starlink-equipped, “ensuring a consistent onboard experience regardless of route or destination”.

However, details of the cost of connections for passengers and how many aircraft the system will be available on remains under wraps.

A spokesperson for the airline said: “Wizz Air’s goal is to make high-quality connectivity accessible to as many passengers as possible, in line with our ultra-low-cost model. More details on access, pricing and product details will be provided closer to launch.

“Installation is planned to begin in 2027, with a phased rollout across the fleet over time. Wizz Air will share further updates as deployment progresses.”

The eastern and central European budget carrier’s chief commercial officer Ian Malin said: “Our customers shouldn’t have to choose between affordable fares and reliable internet onboard to stay connected to the people, work, and moments that matter most. 

"We’re proud to lead that change by collaborating with Starlink to bring maximum benefit to Wizz Air.”

Meanwhile, the airline has become the only one to offer direct flights between the UK and Armenia with the start of a twice-weekly service between Luton Airport and Yerevan with one-way fares starting at £45.99.
