WTM 2015: Attendees urged to leave extra time to travel due to DLR strike

People using public transport to reach World Travel Market today have been urged to allow extra time to travel due to the ongoing strike on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR).

The message was issued by Transport for London (TfL) ahead of the second day of a 48-hour walkout by members of the RMT rail union which only left a limited service running between Canning Town and Prince Regent stations.

Extra buses have been laid on together with additional river boat capacity while the Emirates Air Line cable car for access to WTM venue, ExCel exhibition centre, is accepting valid travel tickets.

TfL said: “The DLR strike will affect the World Travel Market London exhibition at ExCeL.

“If you’re attending, please allow plenty of time to travel and if possible, avoid travelling in the morning and evening peaks, as lines and stations will be very busy.”

A full service on the DLR is not expected to be running until late morning on Thursday – the final day of WTM – leaving Underground services busier than usual in the morning and evening peak travel times.

TfL advised WTM attendees travelling from north or east London to use services to Stratford and then either:

• Take the Jubilee line to Canning Town for a 15-minute walk, or use local bus services, to get to ExCeL
• Take the Jubilee line to North Greenwich and cross the river Thames on the Emirates Air Line cable car to the Royal Docks Terminal, a five-minute walk from ExCeL

Those travelling from central London are advised to take the District line to West Ham and then either:

• Take the Jubilee line to Canning Town and then walk or take a bus
• Take the Jubilee line to North Greenwich for the cable car
