Your Co-op Travel shop raises more than £2k in memory of colleague
Staff at Your Co-op Travel in Beccles have completed a 10-mile sponsored walk to raise more than £2,000 in memory of a former colleague.
Samantha Harrison, who worked at the branch, died suddenly in March at the age of 53 following a brain haemorrhage.
She had worked at Your Co-op Travel for 24 years, starting her career as assistant manager at the Lowestoft branch and later becoming manager. She had worked at the Beccles branch for the past four years and leaves husband Mat and daughter Mollie.
Four staff from the travel agency took part in the walk from Suffolk Wildlife Centre at Carlton Marshes to Your Co-op Travel Beccles on Market Street in aid of The Brain Charity, which supports people with neurological conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and nervous system.
The shop’s travel manager Teresa Bailey-Green said: “Taking part in the walk was very special for all of us who worked with Samantha. She was not only a wonderful colleague but also a dear friend, and we wanted to do something that reflected the impact she had on our lives.
“Completing the route together felt like a fitting tribute, and knowing we’ve raised money to help others through The Brain Charity makes it even more meaningful. We’re proud to have honoured her memory.”
Your Co-op Travel chief operating officer Claire Evans said: “We are incredibly proud of our colleagues at our Beccles branch for coming together to honour Samantha’s memory in such a meaningful way.
“The sponsored walk was not only a tribute to her but also gave the team an opportunity to raise vital funds for The Brain Charity, which does such important work for those affected by neurological conditions. The generosity shown by our team and the community is truly inspiring, and we hope these funds will make a real difference to those who rely on the charity’s services.”
Earlier this year Your Co-op Travel, part of The Midcounties Co-operative, raised more than £180,000 for Go Beyond, its charity partner since 2021. The charity provides vulnerable children across the UK with a much-needed break.
Over the coming months members of Your Co-op Travel’s Personal Travel Agents will also be volunteering at Go Beyond’s Daleside and Coastal centres, helping to repaint and refresh the centre’s bedrooms for children staying on site.
