Each offers guests a unique way to explore Norway’s raw beauty and coastal villages. And visiting in spring or summer opens up a whole new side of Norway, thanks to long summer days where the midnight sun allows for wildlife watching, scenic hikes and cultural excursions.

 

Spring sensations

Spring in Norway sees life burst into colour – literally. Cherry blossoms blanket the fjords and, as the snow begins to melt, waterfalls and lush greenery change the coastal landscapes. Send clients on Hurtigruten’s Original Voyage, The Coastal Express, which has operated along Norway’s shores since 1893, for the chance to see the country’s most magical sights with fewer crowds.

 

This classic 12‑day voyage travels between Bergen and Kirkenes, stopping at 34 ports along the way, and clients might even experience the festivities of Norway Day on May 17 if they time their trip right. On board, guests can enrich their trip with daily lectures, unwind in the hot tub or simply relax in their room or suite. In May, The Coastal Express also makes its way through the dramatic Hjørundfjord, and guests can take advantage of excursions such as kayaking, cycling and hiking led by the expert Expedition Team, who know the region inside out.

 

Endless summer

The midnight sun – when the sun doesn’t set in the Arctic Circle between mid-May and late-July – is a unique spectacle. The Svalbard Line itinerary basks in the midnight sun along the Norwegian coast and up to the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, where guests can pack even more activities into the extended daylight hours and soak in views over the landscape all day and night from the observation deck.

 

Alternatively, suggest a springtime cruise on the North Cape Line, which allows guests to explore the sights of Oslo before making their way to North Cape over 15 days, in the glow of the midnight sun. Hurtigruten’s small ships also allow stops at smaller ports such as Narvik and Alta, as well as Haugesund and Unesco-listed Geirangerfjord. And summer is prime time for wildlife in Norway, when whales breach the icy waters and seabirds gather on the coast. Hurtigruten’s onboard Expedition Team share knowledge of wildlife with guests, while excursions such as rib boat safaris, bird spotting and whale watching provide unforgettable close encounters.
