All travel from the UK to Israel has been banned amid the intensifying conflict with Iran.
The Foreign Office hardened its travel advice on Sunday having issued a string of alerts on Friday (June 13), warning travellers visiting Middle Eastern and north African destinations about rising military tension in the region.
The latest update on Sunday advised against all travel to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories amid ongoing missile attacks.
All flights to and from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport have been cancelled until further notice due to the “special security situation”.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said: “We recognise this is a fast-moving situation that poses significant risks.
“The situation has the potential to deteriorate further, quickly and without warning.
“The current situation has disrupted air links out of the country and may disrupt road links.
“Iran has launched multiple rounds of missile and drone attacks against Israel.”
A nationwide state of emergency was declared in Israel on Friday.
“This followed Israeli strikes against nuclear and military facilities in Iran. Israeli airspace remains closed,” the FCDO noted. “Restrictions may be put in place at short notice.
“The interception of missiles over Israel and the OPTs may result in falling fragments or debris. If you encounter any projectile debris or fragments you should move away from them immediately and contact local authorities.”
The FCDO also advises against all travel to Iran.
Ryanair has extended the cancellation of flights to Tel Aviv until September 30.
Which? Travel editor Rory Boland said: “If there is a change in FCDO travel advice and your holiday is affected, some travel insurance policies may allow you to make a claim to cover the costs of cancelling a journey or holiday.
“If the FCDO releases a new travel warning after you’ve arrived in the affected country or region, you continue to be covered by your travel insurance policy. It’s a good idea to consult your travel insurance provider before arranging any next steps if you can.
“If you are due to travel, contact your airline or check their channels for updates.”
