Millennium Dome visitor centre closes

THENEWMillennium Experience Company has been forced to close its visitor centre next to the Cutty Sark ship in Greenwich because the site is required by its owner, the Royal Naval College.

A tourist information centre is set to open near the Millennium Dome at North Greenwich Tube station later this month, but no definite date has been set.

Meanwhile, a second tourist information centre, also containing information on the Dome, will open at the Pepys House at the Royal Naval College at the end of December.

An spokeswoman for the company said “We are going into a short period of limbo.”

However, she added that public interest in the visitor centre in Greenwich had exceeded expectations while it was open.

More than 500,000 people viewed the displays illustrating the Dome project. The company had expected 300,000.

The spokeswoman added the Jubilee Line between Waterloo and North Greenwich Tube stations was open, but work was continuing between Green Park and Waterloo.
