1. Nine Mile

The road trip to Bob Marley’s birthplace and mausoleum at Nine Mile – through Fern Gully and the hills rising up from St Ann’s Bay, then Brown’s Town and its bustling market – is a treat. Captain Crazy, the most celebrated of the site’s tour guides (and purportedly the reggae superstar’s first cousin) is the icing on the cake. His infectious booming laugh will stay with you forever.

2. Dunn’s River Falls & Park

As well as being one of Jamaica’s most beautiful natural spots, the 45-minute clamber from a lovely little beach, up the stepped falls of Dunn’s River is the perfect icebreaker for any group. Holding hands for stability and led by a guide, the hike is doable for most abilities, and the refreshing water an added bonus.

3. Kingston

Positioned alluringly with the Blue Mountains behind it and Kingston Harbour in front, Jamaica’s capital Kingston offers a heady mix of attractions, including the Hope Botanical Gardens, the Bob Marley Museum, Emancipation Park, Devon House (the grand Georgian-style home of the Caribbean’s first black millionaire, George Stiebel) and Coronation Market. Great shopping, dining and arts and crafts galleries complete a very pretty picture. Book a day tour with a guide to get the best of this vibrant city.

4. Mystic Mountain

As if the SkyExplorer Chairlift and thrilling Bobsled Jamaica ride weren’t enough, Rainforest Adventure used its Covid-enforced closure to put in a new ride, the Ragga, which dangles you from an overhead track as you go flying through 14 turns. A pool, waterslide and plenty of other more sedate activities combine to create a fantastic attraction.

5. Moon Palace, Jamaica

Despite more than 700 rooms, seven places to eat, multiple pools and plenty of activities for grown-ups and kids (including the island’s only FlowRider Double wave simulator), this Ocho Rios all-inclusive manages to feel intimate and personal, thanks in large part to the super-friendly staff. Services are top-notch and the accommodation options, ranging from balcony rooms to walk-out suites, are elegant. And the beachfront setting, within walking distance of downtown Ocho Rios, is picture perfect.
