Abta head of destinations Angie Hills was presented with her MBE by the Princess Royal during a ceremony at Windsor Castle.
The honour was originally announced in the King’s New Year Honours List for her contribution to improving health, safety and security standards for British travellers abroad.
Hills has worked in the travel industry for more than 25 years and joined Abta in 2008, leading on destination operations and crisis response, including the launch of the association’s internationally recognised health and safety technical guide.
Hills said: "It was such an honour and a privilege to attend my investiture at Windsor Castle, where the Royal Highness, Princess Anne presented me with my MBE.
“The award was for services to improving health, safety, security standards for British travellers abroad.
“Whilst this continues to be a real passion for me, enabled through my role at Abta, this award is also testament to the work of my team, Abta and our members who work so hard to make change and improvement on these essential areas for the benefit of travellers and also for the benefit of the local people in the destinations they visit."
