Aer Lingus franchise carrier Emerald Airlines has carried one million passengers less than a year since its first flight.
Born out of a pandemic, the airline began flying on the Dublin-Donegal route on February 26 last year and has grown ever since.
This summer will see 25 routes served – 15 from Dublin and 10 from Belfast, with more than 580 flights a week.
The operator of the Aer Lingus regional network has more than 1.5 million seats on sale in its summer schedule, including new routes from Belfast to Jersey and Newquay, along with an increase in frequency on popular services including a doubling of seats between Dublin and Southampton and Dublin-Jersey.
The airline has also added more flights on high-frequency routes including Dublin-Glasgow, Dublin-Edinburgh, Belfast-Manchester, and Belfast-Birmingham.
The new routes and additional frequencies form part of a wider expansion strategy, which will come to fruition over the coming months with the delivery of additional aircraft, according to the airline.
Executive chairman and founder of the carrier, Conor McCarthy, said: “Having only operated our very first flight less than 12 months ago, to have just welcomed our one-millionth passenger in such a short time frame is a really great achievement by the whole team here at Emerald.”
