Threatened strikes by DHL ground handlers at Gatwick airport have been suspended following an improved pay offer, though employees of other firms are still due to walk out.
The Unite union confirmed nearly 600 DHL workers on the Gatwick easyJet contract would be balloted on a new offer and strikes scheduled for July 28 to August 1 would not go ahead.
Strikes at the airport by around 450 ASC, Menzies Aviation and GGS workers are still scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 1, and then from August 4 to August 8.
If the DHL workers reject the new deal, fresh strike dates will be announced.
Unite regional officer Dominic Rothwell said: “As an act of good faith, Unite’s Gatwick DHL members have agreed to suspend their first set of strikes while they are balloted on the new offer.
“Strikes by ASC, Menzies and GGS workers are still scheduled to go ahead. Unite urges the remaining employers to return to the negotiating table and put forward an offer our members will accept.”
