New measures in place as Manchester airport bids to cut queues

Manchester airport expects to handle 13% more passengers year-on-year over the two week Easter school holiday period.

The airport, which suffered long passenger queues earlier last year as travel returned from Covid restrictions, pledged a range of new measures to improve service levels.

More than 1.174 million passengers are due to use the north west hub on 7,300 flights over the two weeks against 1.038 million in the same period last year.

Dubai is the most popular destination, up from sixth last year, ahead of Dublin, Alicante, Tenerife, Amsterdam, Palma, Belfast, Paris, Antalya and Faro.

Airport managing director Chris Woodroofe said: “We’re looking forward to a successful Easter and have put a range of new measures in place to make sure passengers see the airport at its best.

“We’ve got state of the art technology to help us track how long people are spending in queues and a new 100-person resilience team that can step in and trouble shoot any problems that may occur.

“In February more than 95% of people got through security in under 15 minutes and we’re confident we will maintain that over the Easter period and into the summer.”
