Two Polar cruise specialists are joining forces under the same ownership group to co-ordinate and combine their Arctic and Antarctic expedition businesses.
The combined polar operations of Danish firm Albatros Expeditions and US-based expedition travel company Polar Latitudes from the 2025-26 season will consist of the ships Ocean Albatros, Ocean Victory, MS Seaventure and Ocean Nova.
Albatros Expeditions recently became the sole owner of flagship newbuild vessel, Ocean Albatros, operating on a year-round basis.
The company also has a long-term charter of Ocean Victory for Antarctic operations.
The ‘X bow’ low emissions ships are among the newest in the polar regions.
Polar Latitudes is known for its Antarctic experiences and ongoing support of NGOs committed to protecting the polar region’s fragile environment.
Both companies will initially operate under their existing brands before combining “in time”.
Albatros Expeditions founder Soren Rasmussen said: “We are excited to combine our two companies deep expedition knowledge and long experience. It will strengthen us both and make us ready for future challenges. We look forward to see how the company will grow in this new constellation.”
Incoming chief executive Patrick Shaw added: “Our ambition is to create the most trusted and reliable brand for all of our customers and business partners by learning from, and building on, each other’s strengths.”
Polar Latitudes chief executive John McKeon added: “This is a great step forward for both companies.
“Our combined resources and shared values will make us stronger as Polar tour operators and will lead to expanded offerings for our adventurous travellers.”
