Manchester airport is set to gain twice-weekly direct flights to Moldova operated by FlyOne.
The Moldovan low cost carrier will start the service to the capital Chisinau on Tuesday, December 17, with flights also running on Sundays. Fares start at £19 one-way.
Manchester airport chief commercial officer Stephen Turner said: “This new route gives people from the north the opportunity to take the road less travelled and visit one of Europe’s last real hidden gems, with fantastic wine and beautiful scenery.”
The flights, which are primarily intended to help connect friends and families, have been welcomed by the Moldovan ambassador to the UK.
Ruslan Bolbocean said: “This new connection is an important development for the Moldovan diaspora in the north-west of England and enhances cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the UK.”
He encouraged other airlines to “explore similar opportunities”.
FlyOne general director Mircea Maleca said: “The launch of this route is our response to numerous requests.
“We analyse travellers’ preferences and try to come up with solutions so that the diaspora, businesspeople and those who want to visit somewhere new can easily fly to these cities.”
