Marella Cruises cancels second Discovery Caribbean sailing

Marella Cruises has been forced to cancel a second successive itinerary on Marella Discovery over recently-introduced Covid measures in Barbados.

The 2,076-passenger ship’s sailing on January 2 was pulled after “small numbers of positive Covid cases” among passengers were reported.

Marella has now cancelled Discovery’s next sailing, which had been due to depart on January 9.

All affected passengers have been contacted by the line. They have been offered the choice of changing their booking with an incentive attached or a full refund.

A Marella Cruises spokesperson said: “We continue to monitor the situation closely and any customers impacted by changes to their holiday will be contacted directly as soon as possible.”

Passengers on Discovery’s January 2 sailing were told in a letter that Bajan authorities were no longer allowing asymptomatic cases to isolate ashore as they had done previously.

Crew had been waiting for authorities to allow positive cases to be transferred prior to the letter being given to passengers.
