Princess Cruises and Holland America Line extend Alaska pause

Princess Cruises and Holland America Line have extended their pause on Alaska sailings from Seattle into June.

Princess Cruises confirmed its suspension would affect itineraries on Emerald Princess and Majestic Princess and run until June 27, while HAL said six June departures on Eurodam and Oosterdam would no longer take place.

HAL said Alaska cruises departing Seattle from July onwards have not been cancelled, although it has already announced the cancellation of all 2021 departures from Vancouver.

The Canadian Transport Ministry previously issued an interim order that closed Canadian ports to passenger vessels, and both lines reported talks were ongoing with US authorities in order to preserve a portion of the 2021 Alaska season.

The US cruise industry is still awaiting confirmation of the restart of the sector. Last October, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a new “Framework for Conditional Sailing Order” to replace the previous “No Sail Order”, but no timescale has been issued for the resumption of cruises.
