InteleTravel is working with the British Deaf Association (BDA) to highlight British Sign Language Week as part of the homeworking agency’s commitment to inclusive travel.
The agency recently launched its Inclusive Travel For All (ITFA) programme and this latest initiative provides an introduction to sign language and helps advisors communicate with this community.
British Sign Language Week (March 16-22) is held annually by the BDA. The theme for 2026 is ‘United in Sign’, a celebration of unity, pride and collective action around sign languages and deaf culture.
Agents have been invited to its webinar series this week, which gives insights into the deaf community and more practical steps for a more inclusive workplace.
In the UK, one in three people are either hard of hearing, have tinnitus or deafness. In the over-55s, more than half have some deafness.
InteleTravel is also working with the BDA on creating different modules for travel advisors to learn more about how they can help those who are hearing impaired on holidays.
Tricia Handley-Hughes, InteleTravel UK and Ireland managing director, said: “Our ITFA programme has had a huge uptake from advisors who are keen to know more and ensure that everyone can enjoy a holiday, especially as we have hearing-impaired advisors.
“This is not only the right thing to do, but also good business practice.”
