Intrepid Travel has become the latest operator to sign up to a safer tourism pledge.
The Safer Tourism Foundation pledge represents a commitment to traveller risk, health and safety.
Committing to the charity’s safer tourism pledge adds traveller safety to the formal, independently validated commitments that define the B Corp-certified small group adventure operator.
Intrepid Travel will join other leading travel companies in working collaboratively to identify potential travel risks and proactively prevent harm to travellers.
The company will also share anonymous travel incident data with the Safer Tourism Foundation, contributing to growing safety incident information.
The charity uses the details to understand the root causes of preventable harm; an evidence base which it says reflects more than ten million trips a year across the pledge partner network.
Global safety manager Charlie Newman said: “Intrepid has long prioritised responsible travel and safety is a major part of that commitment.
“We’re proud to sign up to the safer tourism pledge, reinforcing our duty of care to our customers and our dedication to responsible and sustainable tourism.
“We look forward to working with Safer Tourism and other pledge partners to continue learning, sharing good practice and building the interventions required to minimise risks for travellers.”
Safer Tourism Foundation chief executive Katherine Atkinson said: “Intrepid is one of the most recognised names in responsible travel, and its decision to sign the safer tourism pledge sends a powerful signal to the industry.
“What struck us during the validation process was the penetration of Intrepid’s safety thinking, right to the core of its network of DMCs and suppliers within destinations all over the world.”
She added: “Intrepid has also been active with Safer Tourism in illustrating the clear links between safety risks and climate change, an interaction that deserves more attention.
“We look forward to working even more closely with Intrepid as its global footprint and local expertise will make for invaluable contributions to good practice development across our pledge partner community.”
