Tunisia and Morocco have emerged as the most affordable all inclusive holidays for couples and families respectively this summer, according to a new study.
Morocco is revealed as the destination offering the best deal for families, with a last minute seven-night break averaging £81 per person per night.
Tunisia offers the best value for couples, with a seven-night holiday averaging £123 per person per night.
The data, based on bookings and pricing data by OTA loveholidays for the first quarter of the year, suggests that Tenerife is this summer’s top short-haul destination, closely followed by Majorca, Crete, Costa Blanca and Antalya.
But many beach holidaymakers are opting for quieter, more affordable alternatives to major resorts.
Bookings to the Albanian coastal resort Durrës have surged by 224% year-on-year, while travellers to Mexico are swapping Cancún and Playa del Carmen for low-key neighbour Puerto Morelos, where bookings are up 100% versus summer 2024.
Those opting for city breaks are seeking destinations that offer cultural experiences, with Marrakech the most popular choice.
Interest in Tokyo is also soaring, with a claimed 438% surge in summer bookings.
Solo travel booking are up by a fifth (19%), with Benidorm the most popular resort ahead of Playa de las Americas, San Antonio, Agadir and Albufeira.
The 10th anniversary of popular festival Lollapalooza and Iron Maiden’s 50th anniversary tour are contributing to a 145% increase in bookings to Berlin this summer, while Dublin is seeing a 117% rise ahead of reformed Oasis appearing at Croke Park in August.
