Planet Holidays and Planet Weddings have reported a “significant rise” in enquiries and bookings for 2025 and 2026, with the Greek island of Santorini emerging as its top destination for weddings and honeymoons.
The Greece specialist brands said Santorini bookings were 17% up year on year for weddings and honeymoons, while ordinary holiday sales were up 19%.
The sister brands attribute Santorini’s appeal to its “breathtaking sunsets, iconic whitewashed architecture and dramatic views”.
They also noted growing demand for overseas weddings, partly as the ceremonies can be more affordable for couples than UK options.
Furthermore, the operator said there have been no enquiries or concerns from agents or clients about recent seismic activity on the island.
Santorini was formed after a huge eruption in 1600 BCE and it sits in a geologically active zone.
The island was hit by a series of earthquakes earlier this year but Greece’s tourism minister, Olga Kefalogianni, reassured travellers there are “no issues with the island’s tourism and essential infrastructure”.
Mathilde Robert, managing director of Planet Weddings, said: “More couples are realising that getting married abroad allows their budget to stretch further – often with a backdrop of guaranteed sunshine, stunning locations and a ready-made honeymoon.”
Planet Holidays offers more than 30 hotel options on the island, while Planet Weddings features nine wedding venues – from church ceremonies to cliff-top celebrations.
New to Planet Holiday’s luxury collection is Domes Novos, Santorini’s latest five-star boutique hotel which opened in April 2024.
A seven-night stay starts from £3,140 on a B&B basis, with flights and transfers, travelling on September 20 from Gatwick.
